Our studio

A kitchen
for curious
appetites

Power Salads is an independent cooking studio in Bristol. We teach the dishes that make a table: salads with swagger, dips with depth, and little plates you can’t stop reaching for.

•Philosophy

What we
believe

Five ideas run through everything we teach, from the first tasting to the last plate.

  1. 01

    Flavour first

We start with taste, always. If a technique does not make something taste better, we do not teach it.

  2. 02

    Texture is half the dish

Crisp, creamy, chewy, juicy: every plate we cook has contrast on purpose.

  3. 03

    Make it yours

Recipes are starting points. We show you why they work so you can swap, substitute and improvise.

  4. 04

    Presentation is generosity

A beautiful plate says someone cared. We teach plating as part of cooking, not as decoration after the fact.

  5. 05

    Small groups, real attention

Few people, plenty of time and a tutor who is actually next to you with a spoon.

•Our approach

Taste. Texture.
Technique. Plate.

  1. Taste

We begin every session by tasting single elements: acid, salt, fat, sweetness. You learn what each does before you combine them.

  2. Texture

We build every dish with contrast: something crisp, something creamy, something juicy, something fresh.

  3. Technique

Short, clear demonstrations, then you do it. Charring, emulsifying, seasoning in layers, timing a table.

  4. Plate

Presentation is part of cooking. We show you how to arrange food so it looks as generous as it tastes.

•Atmosphere

Relaxed,
busy,
delicious

Expect good music at conversation volume, bright worktops, a pantry of interesting things to taste and a lot of chopping alongside new friends.

Groups are small, so you will never be hidden at the back. Our tutors work the room, tasting from your spoon and nudging seasoning. There is no pressure to be perfect. Mistakes are how we all learn what a dressing needs, and they usually end up tasting good anyway.

Every session ends the same way: everyone sitting down together to eat what they have made.

•What to expect

When you
arrive

  • A warm welcome and a quick tour, plus an apron with your name on it, so to speak.
  • Space to cook with a board, knife and the equipment you need. Hobs and ovens are shared; private groups work in pairs or small teams.
  • Demonstrations in small bites. We show a technique, then you try it straight away.
  • Tasting at every stage. We encourage you to taste, season and adjust as you go.
  • A shared meal at the end, made from your own cooking.
  • Recipe cards and notes to take home, so you can cook it all again.
